1) Overview
BikepackPro is a bikepacking utility app available on the Apple App Store. We rely on Apple frameworks (Location Services, iCloud/CloudKit, StoreKit), trusted providers for maps and weather, and our own servers for community features. We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.
2) Information We Collect
Location Data
We access your device's location to provide core features, including:
- Tracking rides and showing your position on maps
- Route distance, elevation, and ETA calculations
- Weather relevant to your current or planned route
Your precise location remains on your device unless you choose to sync routes to iCloud (see below) or submit location-based content through community features.
iCloud / CloudKit Sync
If you enable cloud sync, your routes and related data are stored in your private iCloud via Apple's CloudKit. This data is tied to your Apple ID. We cannot access your private iCloud data.
In-App Purchases & Subscriptions (StoreKit)
Purchases and subscriptions are processed by Apple. We do not receive or store your payment card details. We may store non-sensitive receipts or entitlement status necessary to unlock features on your devices.
Analytics (Apple-Provided Only)
We use aggregated, anonymized analytics made available by Apple (e.g., App Store Connect) to understand general usage and improve the App. This data does not identify you personally.
3) Community Data
When you use community features, we collect and process additional information. This data is stored on BikepackPro's servers, separate from iCloud/CloudKit.
Account Information
When you create a community account, we collect:
- Email address — used for account authentication and important account-related communications;
- Display name — publicly visible to other users alongside your community submissions;
- Avatar image — publicly visible to other users as part of your community profile.
Community Submissions
When you submit content through community features, we collect and store:
- Points of Interest (POIs): Name, description, geographic coordinates, and associated photos;
- Routes: Name, description, route data (coordinates/GPX data), and associated photos;
- Photos: Images you upload as part of POI or route submissions. Photos may contain embedded metadata (e.g., EXIF data including location and timestamp). We may strip or retain this metadata as needed for the service.
Public visibility: Community submissions (including your display name, POI and route details, and photos) are visible to all users of the App. Do not submit content you wish to keep private.
Automatically Collected Data
When you interact with community features, we may also collect:
- Timestamps of submissions and account activity;
- Device type and operating system version (for troubleshooting and compatibility);
- IP address (for security, rate limiting, and abuse prevention — not displayed publicly).
4) Third-Party Services
To deliver maps and weather, BikepackPro uses:
- Mapbox (maps and map tiles) – Privacy Policy
- Foreca (weather data) – Privacy Policy
These providers may process device and network information (e.g., IP address) and approximate or precise location as needed to serve content. Their use of data is governed by their respective policies.
Community features are powered by BikepackPro's own servers. We do not share your community account information or submissions with third-party advertisers or data brokers. We may use third-party infrastructure providers (e.g., cloud hosting) to store and serve community data; these providers process data on our behalf and are bound by contractual obligations to protect your information.
5) How We Use Information
- Provide core features (maps, routing, weather, and ride metrics)
- Sync your content across your devices when you enable iCloud
- Manage your subscription entitlements and access
- Operate community features, including displaying your submissions to other users
- Authenticate your community account and maintain account security
- Moderate community content and enforce our Terms of Service
- Respond to reports of inappropriate or inaccurate content
- Communicate with you about your account (e.g., security alerts, policy changes)
- Improve stability, performance, and user experience
We do not sell or rent personal information. We do not share data for advertising purposes.
6) Data Storage & Security
- Local data: App data (routes, settings) is stored locally on your device.
- iCloud data: If you enable sync, your data is stored in your private iCloud account via CloudKit. We rely on Apple's security for transmission and storage. BikepackPro personnel have no access to your private iCloud content.
- Community data: Community account information and submissions are stored on our servers. We use industry-standard security measures to protect this data, including encrypted transmission (TLS/HTTPS) and access controls. However, no method of electronic storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
- Photos: Photos submitted through community features are stored on our servers and served to other users of the App. Photos are stored securely but are publicly accessible to all App users as part of the community content they are attached to.
7) Data Retention
- Local and iCloud data: Retained on your device and/or iCloud account until you delete it. We do not control retention of your private iCloud data.
- Community account data: Retained for as long as your community account is active. If you delete your account, your profile information (display name, avatar, email) will be deleted from our servers.
- Community submissions: When you delete your community account, your submissions (POIs, routes, photos) may be retained in an anonymized form (with your identity removed) to preserve the community database for other users. You may request full deletion of your submissions by contacting us at support@bikepackpro.app.
- Security and compliance: We may retain certain data as necessary to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our Terms of Service, even after account deletion.
8) Your Choices & Controls
- Location: You can change location permissions in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → BikepackPro.
- iCloud Data: You can delete synced data via iOS Settings → Apple ID → iCloud → Manage Storage, or by removing the app and its iCloud documents.
- Subscription: Manage or cancel via iOS Settings → Your Name → Subscriptions.
- Community Account: You may delete your community account at any time through the App. This will remove your profile information from our servers. See the Data Retention section above for details on how submissions are handled.
- Community Submissions: You may edit or delete your own community submissions (POIs, routes, photos) through the App at any time while your account is active.
- Access/Deletion Requests: You have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of your personal data. Contact us at support@bikepackpro.app. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable privacy laws (including PIPEDA and, where applicable, GDPR).
9) Children's Privacy
The App is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. Community account creation requires users to be at least 16 years old (or the age of digital consent in their jurisdiction). If you believe a child has provided personal information or created a community account without appropriate consent, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10) Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The latest version will be available in-app and on our website. Material changes will be indicated by updating the "Last updated" date above. For significant changes that affect how we handle community data, we will make reasonable efforts to notify community account holders (e.g., via in-app notice or email).
